“A new report co-authored by Klasner states that more than 72,000 bridges nationwide cannot safely handle the proposed heavier truck weights. Replacing the bridges, Klasner said, would cost taxpayers more than $60 billion.
In Illinois, 1,252 bridges would be put at risk, he said, with a replacement cost of more than $1 billion.”
